The key tenets of Regenerative farming

There are five widely accepted tenets of regenerative agriculture:

  1. Don’t disturb the soil (minimise tillage)
  2. Keep the soil covered year-round
  3. Grow a diverse range of crops. Vines are permanent crops so are not grown in rotation. However monocultures can be avoided by growing a diverse range of plants on the vineyard floor and by planting up the parts of the field that are not under vine.
  4. Keeping living roots in the soil
  5. Integrating animals. This can be a challenge to achieve in vineyards but sheep are often used in the vine dormant season and chickens, duck and cows sometimes use.

There is more information about these practices in our Toolkit and RV Guide.
