About Estates Costa Lazaridi

Since the 1970s, Costas Lazaridis has strongly believed that his hometown, Drama, not only could produce wine that would stand out at the international scene, but also it would turn into a “City of Wine”. In 1979, he established the first linear vineyard in Xiropotamos, a village on the slopes of Mount Falakro, in Drama region and an ahead of its time modern winery followed. Beginning with 8,5 hectares of vineyards, the winery is now cultivating around 300 hectares of privately owned vineyards planted out the best Greek and International grape varieties. The vineyards are located in four different locations around Drama; in Adriani, in Kali Vrysi, in Katafyto and in Platania. Each of them has its own unique characteristics, making good use of all the potentials of the microclimate of Drama and the special features of the terroir in each area. Our vines are certified according to the system of the Integrated Handling “Agro 2-1/2-2” and the total amount of the production is exclusively wine made at our modern premises. Our philosophy is “GREAT WINES ARE BORN IN THE VINEYARDS”, a belief that accompanies every undertaking of Estates Costa Lazaridi from its beginning up to today. The innovation and the respect for the nature are two concepts that consist the base of the whole development of the winery. Both the varietal compound of the first vineyards that consisted the beginning of the rebirth of the viticulture in the region and the unique wine character that expresses the characteristics of each year or vineyard, prove in practice that behind every label an entire philosophy is hidden. A philosophy that is energetically continued by the next generation of the Lazaridi family who is now actively taking part in the management of the company. George and Gerasimos, the twin sons of Costas and Julia, who grew up, literally, in the vineyard and the winery, are the biggest guarantee for the continuation of the Estate’s success in the future.
Adriani’s vineyards, on a hillside with northern exposure, altitude of 150-200 meters, mainly clay and sandy soil.
Kali Vrysi’s vineyards, 200-300 meters of altitude, mainly rocky soil.
Katafyto’s vineyards, sandy rocky soil, on the slopes of Mount Orvilos, cultivated with varieties that are fond of cooler conditions, 800-900 meters of altitude.
Platania vineyards, 350-450 meters of altitude, mainly rocky soil.
The future plan of the estate is to improve soil health, increase organic matter by managing the vineyards more efficiently and in a sustainable way with ultimate goal to produce wines with high qualitative standards.
