Adam Huss interviews Erik Schellenberg of Black Creek Farm and Nursery in the Hudson Valley of New York about his experiences with implementing commercial scale married vines. This is an approach to agroforestry that has also been used in other sectors such as cacao and coffee in Brazil, and grapes in Switzerland.

One of the most interesting learnings is that walnuts are not after all allelopathic if the trees are pruned right from the beginning. The process of pruning changes the compounds excreted as the trees put more effort into regrowth. So, yes you can use walnuts after all, as long as you prune them.

Topics covered:

  • Humans working on ecological harmonisation through vitiforestry
  • Myths regarding invasive species
  • Suggested trees to implement
  • Ecological solutions for the spotted lantern fly
