How should growers get started with regen?
We get lots of questions from growers who have read up a lot about soil health and biodiversity, and are ready to get going, but don’t know what to do first. Once you’ve made the decision to start to regenerate your vineyard soils, what’s the first thing you should do?

Same question from me. I’m a relatively new vineyard owner that would like to convert from basic sustainable farming to something more environmentally friendly. The resources page at regenerativeviticulture.org look valuable, but on first look, it isn’t clear where to start. Any guidance would be appreciated.
Great news that you are considering regen practices. One of the best pieces of advice I’ve heard is to start slowly, not try to do too much in one go. Maybe pick one or two of the toolkit practices that feel achievable, like starting to get more of the soil covered. Where abouts are you? Context is of course king. And one of the most valuable things, if you haven’t already done so, is to make sure you take some baseline soil health assessments so that you know you’ve improved when you have.

Hi Philip! Start by reducing or eliminating the use all conventional fertilizers, fungicides, and insecticides. Increase biodiversity. Think fruit trees, pollinator habitats, native annuals and perrenials etc. Lastly, try to plant highly diverse cover crops that incorporate 4 plant families and 10 or more species….
